Marie Gairet

BIOGRAPHY

Marie Gairet is a multifaceted artist: singer, pianist, performer, and composer, she embodies the fusion of two musical worlds that seem entirely opposed: classical and jazz.

After refining her art at the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne under the guidance of professors such as Brigitte Balleys and Sara Breton-Lazarus, she distinguished herself in both disciplines, collaborating with renowned artists such as Natalie Dessay, Sandrine Piau, Yvan Cassar, Mathieu Michel, Marylin Mazur, Viviane De Farias, and Mauro Martins.

She is regularly invited to appear on RTS radio, with her duo Ruĝa (accordion/vocals), in programs such as “Kiosque à musique,” “Master sur les Ondes,” and on Espace 2 with “La Note Bleue.”

Recently, Marie Gairet broadened her horizons by traveling to Ghana, where she immersed herself in a vibrant new musical culture. This experience led her to collaborate with local musicians, resulting in performances at festivals such as Nova Jazz and Cully Jazz.

At the end of 2024, Marie Gairet had the opportunity to take part in the DKSJ project, a dynamic gathering of students from several Swiss schools, from Basel to Lucerne, including Zurich and Lausanne. Led by Chris Cheek, this experience culminated in a tour across these various cities. Sous la direction de Chris Cheek, cette expérience s’est clôturée par une tournée à travers ces différentes villes.

Today, she is touring with the Marie Gairet Septet, a project where French chanson, jazz, and classical music come together. Inspired by Youn Sun Nah, Elina Duni, and Édith Piaf, she blends original compositions, improvisation, and poetic lyrics.
